ÉCOLE CATHOLIQUE BÉATRICE-DESLOGES This 6,503 square-metre high school is located in the Township of Cumberland, Ontario. Phase I, completed in 1997, accommodates 476 students, and a community daycare. To meet the growing school population, an addition was built on the south side of the original building. Completed in August 2000, Phase II addition added 29 classrooms, which include laboratories, a dark room, drama, and visual arts classrooms. In 2002, a new gymnasium was added to accommodate the increased student population. Functional components of St. Peter Catholic High School in Cumberland, such as the administration area, the gymnasium, science labs, and the technology lab, were used as 'prototypes' to design similar components for École secondaire catholique Béatrice-Desloges. The highlight of the building is a central, two-storey atrium that serves as a gathering space for students. A skylight at the top of the atrium allows natural light to reach centrally-located classrooms and corridors. Other features include specialized, teaching areas, a competition-size gymnasium, and a multi-disciplinary auditorium / cafeteria / exercise room. Outdoor facilities include a football / soccer field, and a running track. |
