ÉCOLE SECONDAIRE CATHOLIQUE FRANCO-CITÉ
Ottawa, Ontario

In 1993, an addition and alteration program transformed an outdated school complex into a modern school campus, which for ten years, was a shared facility for 1,200 students from the Conseil des écoles catholiques de langue française du Centre-Est, and the Conseil scolaire des écoles publiques de l'Est de l'Ontario. Under one roof, the school creatively housed two schools from two Boards, while maintaining the separate identity of each. The addition is connected to the existing building by a centrally-located, sky-lit atrium/allée that provides a public space and focal point for student activities.

With a growing student population, and the need to add grades seven and eight, the Catholic School Board took over the entire building after the Public School Board vacated in 2003. At that time, a new two-storey classroom addition was built. The project included the addition of 12 classrooms, the conversion of the existing family studies and occupational shops into a gymnasium, and the addition of washroom and change room facilities.
