FIRE RESEARCH FACILITY
Mississippi Mills, Ontario

The Fire Research Facility is a world-unique facility for the research of various types of fire and fire-related concerns.
The building comprises three research areas:

  1. An Atrium, thirty metres high, which is used to research “smoke control” and “smoke management”;
  2. A Burn Hall, twelve metres high, which is used to research the measurement of quantities of heat;
  3. A Tunnel, fifty metres long, which is used to research fire as it relates to the transportation industry.

The studies undertaken in this research facility cover commercial and residential buildings, and transportation facilities - such as tunnels, subway stations and underground parking / storage areas. Other research deals with environmental damage, and the health and safety of firefighters.
