GRANITE RIDGE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Stittsville, Ontario

Granite Ridge Elementary School is a two-story, 5,202 square-metre building. The layout is compact, efficient, and economical. The organization is a double-loaded corridor system. A linear configuration of the classrooms and corridors allows for supervision of the students and visitors. The school’s open-ended layout accommodates future expansion at either end of the building.

Interior design elements, such as the decorative floor patterns and the transparent two-storey wall in the library, create a visually pleasant learning environment. The skylight on the second floor and the two-storey glazed walls in the two-storey lobby and library allow natural light to flood interior spaces. The gymnasium and front lobby have doors that can be secured, which separates them from the rest of the school. After-hour access to these spaces by the community is possible without compromising the security of the entire school.
