HOLY TRINITY CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL 1990 - City of Kanata Excellence in Design Award Holy Trinity Catholic High School offers comprehensive programs for 1,400 students enrolled in grades seven to twelve. The highlight of the building is a three-storey, centrally-located atrium where a skylight admits daylight into the interior teaching spaces. According to a research article published by the National Research Council of Canada*, atrium design in buildings, besides being an energy-efficient option, enhances aesthetic qualities, and improves the indoor environment. The school's state-of-the-art teaching spaces, such as the science labs, design technology labs, and the library, are highly computer-oriented. Other features of the school include a competition-size gymnasium, a multi-purpose auditorium / cafeteria / gymnasium area, as well as a maintenance centre for the Board's western district. Exterior features include a football field with a running track. The school complex also contains a child care centre. In 2003, a three-storey, 3,015 square-metre addition was built to accommodate the growing student population. The addition consisted of classrooms and science labs. * NRC-CNRC - Construction Innovation, Volume 3, Number 4, Summer 1998: published by the Institute for Research in Construction. |
