IMMACULATA CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL 1996 - Award of Excellence in the Adaptive Use Category The project consisted of a complex addition and alteration program that transformed the existing Colonel By Campus (previously owned by Algonquin College of Applied Arts and Technology) into a modern high school where a comprehensive program is offered to approximately 1,200 students. The school is highly computer-oriented and incorporates many specialized, teaching areas. New building components, such as the library and gymnasium/auditorium complex, harmonize functionally and aesthetically with the existing heritage building. The new gymnasium, a self-contained structure, can be separated from the rest of the campus for community and evening activities. The new library represents an important feature of the design, and is a significant factor in the creation of a new image for the Immaculata Campus. Both new and existing structures overlook the centrally-located, newly landscaped courtyard. |
