LEFEBVRE COTTAGE Edward J. Cuhaci and Associates Architects Inc. was commissioned to design a cottage/ski chalet tucked into a hillside overlooking Bevin Lake just outside the town of Mont Tremblant, Québec. The two-storey, timber-frame building consists of three, simple, gabled structures arranged around a courtyard. The design echoes the charm of farm buildings in rural Québec. The cottage includes four bedrooms, a workshop above the garage, a family room, a library, a sewing room, a country-sized kitchen, a dining room, and a two-storey living room. On the ground floor, a fieldstone fireplace soars two storeys through the open space, to the library above. Framed by a hammerbeam truss (a framing configuration of horizontal and vertical trusses that resemble the shape of a hammer), the fireplace also acts as a divider between the living and dining rooms. Another unique design feature is the screened, sleeping porch that runs the entire length of the cottage on the main and second levels, and overlooks the lake.
