STARTOP OFFICE BUILDING

Completed in 2004, 1600 Startop is a four-storey office building built for the Department of National Defense. The building consists of 18,500 square metres of office space for 1,100 employees. The building layout is efficient and economical. Enclosed meeting rooms, support spaces, and corridors are located in the two central spines, while open offices are situated along the perimeter wall to maximize daylight. The two spines are attached to the central ‘hub’- the core of the building. This core consists of the main entrance, and service spaces such as washrooms, elevators, and exit stairs. The staff lunch area and the main conference room are also located within this core.
