Bell High School Redevelopment

Ottawa, Ontario - Ottawa-Carleton District School Board

Bell High School’s 25-acre campus was established in the 1960’s. The original school building is shaped like the letter “E” and is divided into several wings. Each wing contains a different educational discipline. Academically, Bell High School has one of the highest university placement rates in Ottawa and offers a diverse range of academic studies. Bell High School also has a large roster of sports teams.

Campus redevelopment highlights included:

  • Academic spaces; science lab classrooms and indoor/outdoor collaboration areas for students

  • Spaces for physical activities; new gymnasium, fitness room, and changerooms, new outdoor basketball court

  • Accessibility and life safety improvements; accessible washrooms, new universal washrooms, new elevators and barrier-free parking

  • Energy efficiency; high efficiency lighting and energy efficient glazing in the courtyard

The construction took place while the school was in use, and over the course of three years, not a single day of school was lost due to construction issues.
