Immaculata High School

Ottawa Catholic School Board

The St. Patrick College Building was built in 1930 and is representative of the gothic revival style used on an institutional building. Being the original campus building for St. Patrick’s College, it has architectural and cultural significance and is a landmark building located adjacent to the Rideau Canal.

The existing ten-acre site consists of three buildings situated around a landscaped courtyard. The main heritage building, built in 1930, has undergone several alterations and additions over the years. In 1965, two new buildings were added to the campus. Our firm was subsequently engaged by Algonquin College for the re-adaptation of St. Patrick College into Algonquin College, Colonel By Campus. This building housed Algonquin College’s Applied Arts and Technology program from 1973 to 1992.

When ownership was transferred to the Ottawa Catholic School Board, our firm was contracted to transform the existing college into a modern high school. The new school program included the addition of a gymnasium / auditorium complex, and a new library over the existing cafeteria, which harmonizes functionally and aesthetically with the main building. A new underground tunnel was built to link the entire campus.

Construction was carefully scheduled and planned to minimize disruptions to the occupants and users. The campus was in full operation during construction.

Our firm’s scope of services included:

• Master Planning

• Evaluation of existing building and site conditions

• Definition of scope of renovation / addition work

• Construction documents

• Coordination of consultants

• Cost estimate and schedule control

• Contract administration and deficiency reports

The Ottawa Catholic School Board has continued to retain the services of our firm for various upgrades and repairs to the exterior of the building facade, which has involved repair of the building’s original brick and masonry elements, and a window replacement project.
